Course Overview

The subject covers an overview of the legal system of Singapore, legal methods used and fundamental principles of criminal law. The topics covered include sources of Singapore’s laws, jurisdiction of courts, Parliament and the making of law, statutory reading and interpretation, and selected offences and defences in the Penal Code.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims to ensure that students have a fundamental knowledge of the system and structure under which the laws of Singapore operate and a working knowledge of the law relating to common criminal offences and their defences.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.
