Course Overview

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills of robot internal structure, controller, as well as troubleshooting the various modules, parts and circuits of industrial robot.

Topics covered includes robot safety requirements, classification of different industrial robots, workspace and integration, troubleshooting of robot parts & circuits which includes controller system, motion controller, motors, encoders, sensors and the related actuators, programming of robot controller system and communication/fieldbus, implementation of kinematics, motion planning, trajectory generation, plan and developing routes for mobile robot. It also includes robot performance monitoring, maintenance, repair and calibration.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Identify the different types of industrial robots, mainly in terms of classification, workspaces, sensors and actuators, interconnection, and typical applications

  • Describe the safety devices for industrial robots

  • Select appropriate major components used for a robotics system, taking into consideration of safety requirements

  • Apply robotic control principle to integrate major components to perform various applications

  • Implement motion planning, trajectory generation and control functions as well as algorithm of the robots

  • Calibrate and troubleshoot robotic systems

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.
