Course Overview

This program aims to introduce participants to

the accounting process that generates financial statements;
financial ratios to assess performance of the business;
decision-making tools using accounting information;
an overview of Singapore corporate taxation.

Who Should Attend

Managers with little or no financial background.

What You'll Learn

At the end of this course, participants would be able to understand the accounting equation and financial statements to monitor the performance and cash flows of the business. They will be familiar with impairment loss, financial ratios and the use of key accounting information to determine break-even point and make short-term decisions. They will also be able to relate and apply the knowledge learnt back to their organisation.

Interactive and engaging methods of learning such as external articles, videos and real life case studies will be used to facilitate learning of key concepts. Quizzes and reflective questions will also be used to get participants to apply concepts learnt.

Quizzes and activities – measure participants’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Christine Cheong

Christine Cheong, the main curator, had industry experience in external audit, financial planning and analysis, financial reporting and cost & management accounting from the Philippines, USA and Singapore. She obtained her MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and is a Singapore Chartered Accountant.

Gerald Koh

Gerald Koh was senior accountant with a government-linked company in the logistics and transportation industry. Prior to that, he was an external auditor of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He is a Singapore Chartered Accountant.

Alice Lew

Alice Lew worked in the Tax department of PwC, where she was involved in the compliance and advisory services for corporate and expatriate clients. Subsequently, she entered the teaching service after obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Merit). She is a Singapore Chartered Accountant.

Joseph Tan

Joseph Tan led a team of staff overseeing the daily operations at one of the major branches of United Overseas Bank. Thereafter, he became a relationship manager with OCBC Bank under corporate banking. He has a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Adelaide

Daniel Ng

Daniel Ng, Course Chair of the Accounting & Finance Division was from the banking and finance industry. An interest in asset management led him to further his career as an Analyst and Portfolio Manager. A fervent believer in the transformational importance of education to youths saw him working in the teaching service prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic.
