Course Overview

Rapid urbanisation and an increasing manpower squeeze are the main drives towards digital engineering technologies as it moves towards advanced and less labour intensive construction technologies. BIM is in the core of the integrated design delivery; from 3D design, integration between fabrication, construction, and logistics, to operating smart, high-quality and high-performance buildings.

The course aims to produce competent and creative BIM professionals who will be able to meet the demands of the building industry, and have the ability to acquire and/or upgrade knowledge and skills relevant to their profession.

All students are required to bring their own notebooks for lessons. You may refer to the required technical specifications for notebooks HERE.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

A Polytechnic Diploma or ITE Technical Diploma / Technical Engineer Diploma / Work-Learn Technical Diploma in Science, Technical, Engineering, Math (STEM) or equivalent

OR a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

OR a Post-Secondary Certificate with at least 3 years of relevant working experience

Who Should Attend

The intended target is working professionals from the built environment industries who are interested to upgrade their skills in the design and modeling using BIM tools and technology.

What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma, participants are required to complete a total of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each PDC.

Post-Certificate in BIM Building Data & Asset Management

The growing construction industry requires professionally trained BIM personnel who are able to utilise BIM digital tools to improve level integration across various disciplines throughout the entire building construction value chain. The Certificate in BIM Building Data and Asset Management provides students with the necessary technical knowledge, practical industry insights and exposure to the relevant industry standards in creating as-built BIM and managing building digital data for BIM Facility Management.

Subject Code Subject
ECBD201 BIM Building Data & Collaboration

This hands-on practice based subject provides participants with the know-how and practical skills of modelling in digital design engineering using various BIM tools used in the industry. Topics covered also include the collaboration aspects of various stakeholders in the build environment disciplines: interior design, architecture, structures, mechanical, electrical and quantity surveyor.

ECBD202 BIM Asset Management

This subject provides participants with the knowledge and skills to create BIM model from 3D scanning and manage BIM data in overall asset management of a facility. The processes of 3D Scanning to BIM Facility Management model will be taught through practical hands-on sessions.

ECBD203 BIM Project 1

This subject allows participants to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills taught in the subject modules to solve authentic problems they encounter in the workplace. Project measures students’ ability to create and design, showcase coordination or collaboration work among disciplines or implement solutions and ideas with respect to the requirements of the project statement. The project nature should be the following:

  • It must be a substantial work related to the company existing project/program in any of these relevant BE areas: interior design, architecture, structures, mechanical, electrical, quantity surveying, and facility management.
  • It may be an innovative BIM: modeling, system or process; or an improvement to the existing BIM model, work-flow or system.

It may include some form of BIM developmental work, evaluation of workable designs and implementation of project ideas.

Post-Diploma Certificate in BIM Construction Planning & Management^

The growing construction industry requires professionally trained BIM personnel who can utilise BIM digital tools in planning and managing BIM-based project construction. The Certificate in BIM Construction Planning and Management provides students with the necessary technical knowledge in Virtual Design Construction, practical industry insights and exposure to the relevant industry standards in performing BIM-based project information preparation and site planning as well as other specific roles in BIM project construction coordination, scheduling and costing.

^ BCAA Subjects. Lessons will be conducted at BCAA. Lessons will start at 6.30pm.

Subject Code Subject
ECBD204 BIM for Construction Planning

This practice-based subject provides participants with practical skills in planning construction process for BIM project. Topics covered include the project information preparation and site planning, BIM for precast and prefabrication construction project coordination, 4D/5D BIM for project scheduling and costing.

ECBD205 BIM for Construction Management

This subject provides participants with the know-how and practical skills in managing design processes for BIM implementation in building construction related project. The subject covers documentation, e-submission, design visualization and spatial coordination as well as multi-disciplinary model integration, strategies and coordination work.

ECBD206 BIM Project 2

This subject extends the participants’ ability to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills taught in the subject modules to solve authentic problems they encounter in the workplace. Project measures students’ ability to plan and manage coordination works among disciplines or implement solutions and ideas with respect to the requirements of the project statement. The project nature should be the following:

  • It must be a substantial work related to the company existing construction/ sustainability/energy project or program.
  • It may be an innovative BIM construction system and processes or an improvement to the existing BIM plan, work-flow or system.

It may be an expansion of BIM Project 1 with added depth to the constructability assessment, evaluation of construction designs and implementation of project ideas on site.

Modes of Assessment

The assessment will be based on a combination of coursework components such as practical tests, case studies, presentations, assignments and projects.
