Course Overview

Knowing how to manage and derive insights from data is now considered a critical baseline competency. Being the first Specialist Diploma in Singapore to meet the increasing demand for well-trained data professionals, we have attained more than 1000 graduates since it was first launched.

Application/Entry Requirement    

At least a Polytechnic Diploma or ITE Technical Diploma/Technical Engineer Diploma/Work-Learn Technical Diploma in a Business or Technology-related course, or equivalent.

 

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

This course is targeted at diploma graduates and Professionals, Managers and Executives (PMEs) who are keen to enter the field of Business Analytics.

What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Specialist Diploma, participants are required to complete a total of 2 Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each PDC.

CBA1C07 Business Intelligence Fundamentals

This subject introduces students to a basic understanding of statistics and the application of business data analysis tools and techniques to visualise, analyse and interpret the results from these data. Students will learn essential descriptive data measures and data visualisation for describing data using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

CBA1C08 Business Intelligence Project

This subject introduces students to the concepts and techniques of turning raw data from various sources into information to help organisations better manage their performance. Students will learn to integrate data, use relevant techniques to analyse data, and apply principles of data visualisation to increase the business intelligence quotient of an organisation. Students will learn how to present the analysis using data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

CBA1C09 Data Analytics for Business Insights

In this subject, students will learn data analytics techniques and gain hands-on experience in using appropriate data analytics tools and software. It provides opportunities for students to integrate and apply the data mining knowledge and skills acquired to make data-driven decisions in specific business domains such as Customer Analytics and Marketing Analytics.

CBA1C10 Social Media Analytics

This subject introduces students to the use of unstructured social media text from various business domains to develop actionable insights for better business decision making. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in text analytics to perform appropriate information retrieval to spot trends and sentiments expressed in unstructured text and social media platforms.

Graduates can expect good employment prospects across many industries such as government, financial and banking institutions and consulting firms as business intelligence analysts, business analytics specialists, business analytics tech consultants, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) analysts, data mining specialists, data warehousing specialists, web & social media analysts and research analysts.

 

Graduates can also look towards upgrading their knowledge and skills in further Continuing Education and Training (CET) and executive programmes offered by local Institutes of Higher Learning such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) Strategic Technology Management Institute which offers many National Infocomm Competency Framework (NICF) certified executive courses in Business Analytics.

Both programmes enable you to undertake work as a data / business analyst. Both courses are complementary in nature and help you to expand your skillsets. To be a full-fledged data scientist you will need to progress after completing these specialist diploma courses to take up advanced university courses.
