Course Overview

The Pet Care Assistant (PCA) works with the veterinary medical team to provide and prepare for the best medical care of pets. The Pet Care Assistant (Level 1) course is designed to provide participants with a foundation in essential knowledge and practical skills required for effectively caring for common pets. In this course, participants will learn the basics of animal care, husbandry, and behaviour, and will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide basic animal restraint and prepare essential surgical and medical supplies. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on activities, participants will gain the confidence and competence needed to provide quality care for pets in clinical settings.

Entry Requirements

Pre-requisites: Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 5 for Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing; OR Pass in ‘N’ level English.

  • Individuals seeking to start a career as Pet care Assistants at veterinary clinics/ hospitals

What You'll Learn

Participants of this course will be equipped to be competent Pet Care Assistants (Level 1) with the knowledge and skills to:

 

  • Provide basic husbandry and care to patients
  • Interpret basic animal behaviour
  • Set up and maintain common veterinary medical and surgical equipment
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients
