Grade Point Average (GPA)

Your progress within a course of study is evaluated based on the Grade Point Average (GPA). The GPA is a numerical value that indicates your academic achievement in the course.

The formula for calculating the GPA is:

GPA = sum (credit units assigned to subject x subject grade point)

sum (credit units assigned to subject)

Semester GPA and Cumulative GPA (cGPA) will be calculated at the end of the semester/year.

If you repeat a subject (having failed it before), you will have your new grade replace your previous failed grade (0 grade point). Your new grade point would be used in the calculation of your semester GPA and cGPA. Your transcript of results will show all the subjects that you have taken, together with the grades.

Academic Standing

Your results slips will show one of the following:

• Proceed to next semester

- If you have passed all the subjects in the current semester.

• Proceed to next semester (Academic Warning)

Academic Warning is given for the following reason/s:

                - If you fail a core subject once and have not passed it;

                - Your cGPA < 1.0 for two consecutive semesters; or

                - You are in your ninth semester and have not fulfilled the graduation requirements.

• Removal

                - If you have met the removal criteria.

• Extended Probation

                - If you were removed but reinstated.

                - You must obtain a cGPA of at least 1.0 by the end of your ‘Extended Probation’ semester or pass the
                   failed subject(s), otherwise, you will be removed from your course of study.

• Complete course of study

                - If you have met the stipulated course graduation requirements

Criteria for Removal

You will be removed from your course of study under the following circumstances:

                - You have not fulfilled the graduation requirements within the stipulated maximum time allowed to
                   complete the course;

                - You have a cGPA which is less than 1.0 for three consecutive semesters; or

                - You have not passed a TPFun subject, a diploma core or required diploma option subject in two
