b'UNDERSTANDING MENTAL ILLNESSES IN YOUNG PERSONS WITH MILD INTELLECTUAL DISABILITYFindingsAn interview was conducted to obtain insights into why parents/caregivers of children with special needs were unwilling to seek mental health treatment for their children. As such, we interviewed a caregiver of a 48-year-old male adult with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia, who found it difficult to refer her son to IMH due to the misconceptions towards mental health treatment and psychiatric medications. Lastly, she also provided us with advice that would be useful for other parents/caregivers who were undergoing the same dilemma.Figure 1.
