Apart from making the game moreengaging and relatable for the elderly withdementia, having reminiscence elements suchas vintage items (e.g., old bicycles) and historicallocations (e.g., Kampung estate) in the games would also help them with their recollection andremind them of how they lived, stimulating their long-term memory.Stage 4: Pilot Usability Test - FindingsA mini pilot usability test was conducted with the AHL staff where they evaluated arepresentative game prototype (ie. Game 4). Overall, the staff gave positive responses to the gameand shared that they believed the game would be helpful for their residents. However, some partsof the game can be further improved. Firstly, although we felt that the game was already phrasedrather simply and that there were sufficient visual prompters, the staff believed that it was still toocomplicated for non-fluent English speakers to understand without assistance. Thus, theysuggested creating the game in another language in addition to English. The staff also mentionedthat a few of the stimuli used for the game were too overwhelming and messy for the clients tograsp, suggesting that we declutter and reformat certain stimuli. Lastly, a few of them felt thegame lacked a bit of meaningful order and flow overall and suggested that we add shortsummaries throughout the game. The feedback and suggestions from this stage was thus used tomodify our prototyped games, leading to the creation of our final games.Final Game Created Chinese Created new assets with Added short highlight instructions to cater toless distractors and morevideos at the end of Chinese-speaking players color contrast each game location Rephrased game instructions Made pictures zoomed-in at the to make them clearer beginning of quiz questionsConclusion All in all, the brain-training game that was developed has successfully fulfilled the projects mainaim, which was to create a game prototype for the immersive technology to benefit the dementiaclients.
