b"DEVELOPING GRIT CURRICULUM FOR PRIMARY TWO STUDENTSStacey Goh, Theophilia Loh, Sameer Ehsaan, Loo Pey ChenIntroductionThe current project is done in collaboration with National Health Group (NHG) to assimilate Grit into the existing curriculum of Primary 2 students. We developed the materials for NHG as an extension of a previous project where growth mindset attributes were assimilated into the existing curriculum of primary 1 students. Grit refers to perseverance and passion for ones long-term goals. As growth mindset is a precursor of grit, introducing grit attributes to primary 2 students would be a logical progression building on the core foundation of growth mindset. We aim to improve the students' academic achievement and mental well-being through further building on their perseverance and resilience.MethodologyThe current project incorporated Grit via Character and Citizenship Education (CCE), Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP) and Programme for Active Learning (PAL). Figures 1 and 2 below show the standard flow for FTGP and CCE. Lesson plans were mainly modified in aspects such as class activities, discussion questions and changes to storyline.Figure 1. Lesson plans were newly created and each focused on one domain only. There are 5 Grit attributes that have been broken down into components as shown in Figure 3 below. Each lesson plan focuses on 1 component only! Figure 3.
