Course Overview

Business organisations operate in an environment that is becoming increasingly complex and competitive. Survival and prosperity of businesses go to those which are best able to adapt to the environment.  This module aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the political-legal, economic, social-cultural, technological environments of business.  While the focus of the course is on the external environment, the module will also examine the company’s internal environment.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims to equip students with current knowledge to:

  • Examine political/legal, economic, socio-cultural, technological and ecological/ethical factors which affect business organisations.
  • Explore key issues which are important to understanding the business environment and learn how these impact the organisations

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

The first part, “Environmental Analysis”, will equip students with current trends in the environment. These trends may include (but do not have to be restricted to) the rise of India and China, globalisation of businesses, ageing population, changing role of women in society, social media, mobile commerce, corporate social responsibility etc.

 

In the second part, “Introduction to Law”, students will be given an introduction to the law that is needed in order to be acquainted with the business environment. These include an overview of the legal system and legislation, business entities, contract law and negligence.

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Business Practice (Business Administration).
