Course Overview

This subject teaches students how to configure, administer and manage common client platforms such as Windows and Linux-based devices. Students will acquire practical knowledge and skills to deploy applications in an enterprise environment, including security, data access, remote access, policy configuration etc.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to configure, administer and manage common client platforms, such as Windows and Linux-based devices. It also aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to secure an organisation’s IT infrastructure.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

100% coursework

 

1. Class Test

A class test will be conducted to assess the student's theoretical understanding of the concepts taught.

 

2. Project

The project will require students to work in groups and individually to integrate the computer hardware/software, operating systems, network and security and design a client platform for an organisation. The deliverables will include a report, presentation and a demonstration of the design.

 

3. Assignment

The assignment will be used to assess students’ ability to apply concepts and knowledge to solve IT problems in an organisation. Students will work in groups and are expected to demonstrate good teamwork skills. Students will be assessed through their reports and presentation of their findings and proposed solutions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result, which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Infocomm and Digital Media (ICT Systems, Services & Support).
