Course Overview

  • The course will equip graduates with skills for social media content creation and nurture them to infuse creative capabilities across horizontal sectors to help companies capture greater business value.
  • The course will focus on strategic media management skills to resonate with business target audiences. Students will develop expertise in areas such as social media metrics, contemporary issues in social media, research and analytics, and digital content management to drive business success in today's digital landscape.
  • The course will focus on key digital skills, covering essential areas like mobile videography, digital photo storytelling, live streaming video production, social media trend analysis, and graphic design.

Entry Requirements

 

‘O’ Levels

3 relevant ‘O’ Level passes

and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec

GPA ≥ 2.0 OR

GPA ≥ 1.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Nitec

GPA ≥ 3.5 OR

GPA ≥ 3.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR

Higher Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 2.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR
Nitec in Technology/Services GPA ≥ 3.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience OR
WSQ Qualification Relevant WSQ Qualification with 1 year of relevant working experience and WSQ Workplace Literacy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6) AND Workplace Numeracy Statement of Attainment (SOA)(Level 6)

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 2 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

This programme is suitable for working professionals from various industries interested in entering the media industry or deepening their skills in script development, brand marketing, content production, and strategic media management to support the growth of the digital content creation and management sector.

What You'll Learn

Upon graduating from the course, graduates should be able to:

  • analyse brand and consumer needs to create digital content that strategically enhances businesses;
  • apply electronic cinematography techniques, audio fundamentals and basic editing skills to bring stories to life;
  • produce scripts and content designed for social media; and
  • understand media management and deliver convincing business pitches;

 

To be awarded the Diploma in Design & Media (Digital Content Creation & Management), participants are required to complete a total of 5 modular certificates (MCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each MC.

DCE069J Visual Narratives: Videography

The subject will cover the use of electronic cinematography techniques to tell a story. Key topics include operational basics of camera and lighting equipment, exposure and lighting techniques, mobile videography and visual compositions. The subject will also explain the essential job descriptions and the roles and responsibilities of an efficient film crew.

DCE070J Video Editing

The subject provides an introduction to the principles of non-linear video editing, covering a detailed walkthrough of the post-production process. This subject also covers an overview of basic editing techniques that are required to get started in the process of video editing.

DCE071J Audio Production

The subject provides an introduction to audio fundamentals and audio recording focusing on the location sound environment. The subject will examine the areas of basic audio field recording techniques, location sound equipment familiarisation and setup, the recording process, and location microphone techniques.

BCCM007 Contemporary Issues in Social Media

The subject covers the challenges faced by organisations such as channel dynamics, social media metrics and customer relationship management with the use of social media for business purposes. It also considers the perspectives of users as they consume content and form perceptions influenced by social media.

BCCM009 Research & Analytics

The subject covers the use of various research methods and analytics tools. This includes the identification of problem, the planning and use of appropriate data collection tools that will aid business decision-making.

BCCM008 Digital Content Management

The subject covers the management of digital content, which involves planning, production and delivery. It also covers the use of appropriate digital tools to produce content for different media channels.

DCE072J Media Writing & Storyboarding

The subject covers screenwriting basics and storyboarding for short form content including dialogue writing, story structure, and techniques of writing for an effective screenplay.

DCE073J Integrated Media Production

The subject aims to equip students with the knowledge to create content using integrated resources such as digital photo stories, live streaming videos and graphic design to produce deliverables for different media platforms.

BCCM010 Managing Media for Business

The subject covers the functions of strategic management for media enterprises. It also includes understanding the markets as well as a range of influences such as social climate, government, advertisers and media landscape that will determine the position of a media enterprise.

BCLM049 Media Law & IP

The subject covers a range of topics including copyright law, Internet content laws, laws relating to news reporting, news production and advertising. In addition, the subject also includes a brief study of the legal position in Singapore in relation to laws on privacy and data protection.

BCCM011 Business Pitching

The subject covers the art of storytelling for businesses as well as techniques for a convincing business pitch. It considers the different target audiences and situations when developing a pitch. This subject also covers the various aspects of effective presentation skills.

DCE074J Capstone Project

The subject takes the form of a major project which allows participants to apply skills learned in the previous MCs. Working in a team, students will be given the freedom to develop their final project for a real client. It involves scripting, time management, budgetary plans, target audience research, business pitching, casting and the execution of directing, camera, audio and editing skills.

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessments would be based on a combination of coursework components such as assignments, projects, and presentations.
