Ever felt confused by all the numbers and words on food packaging? You are not alone and this workshop is here to help! Learn how to make sense of nutrition labels so you can confidently choose healthier options during your next supermarket visit.
From understanding hidden sugars to spotting unhealthy fats, this course gives you the inside scoop on what really matters when reading a food label. But we will not stop there. You will take what you learn straight to the kitchen, where you will prepare a nutritious meal using ingredients you selected based on label insights.
You will also practise good hygiene, safe cooking, and smart storage techniques so you can shop and cook with peace of mind. With plenty of hands-on activities, relatable examples, and guided label-reading practice, you will walk away ready to turn your next grocery run into a healthy mission!
Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Performance upon meeting 75% of the required course attendance.
Certification
Participants who meet at least 75% of the required course attendance and attempt the assessment will be awarded the Certificate of Completion.
Dr. Kalpana Bhaskaran
Dr. Kalpana Bhaskaran is the Deputy Director of Industry Partnerships and Head of the Glycemic Index Research Unit at Temasek Polytechnic. A leader in nutrition science, she has spearheaded clinical trials, contributed to national initiatives like Nutri-Grade labeling, and serves as President of the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association. Recognized for her work in diabetes education with a National Day Commendation Award, she remains a trusted advisor to health organizations and a passionate advocate for advancing public health and nutrition.
Ms. Siti Saifa Hussain
Ms. Siti Saifa Hussain, a lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic, holds a Master’s in Community Nutrition and has over 10 years of experience in applied nutrition. She collaborates on glycemic index studies, dietary surveys, and nutrition-focused product development with industry partners. Active in community nutrition, she engages with community centres, mosques, and non-profits to promote healthy living. As part of the Future Food domain, she advocates alternative proteins and develops balanced products, bridging academic, industrial, and community expertise effectively.
Ms. Loh Win Nie
Ms. Loh Win Nie is a Senior Lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic with over a decade of expertise in nutrition and dietetics. She specializes in diabetes care, weight management, geriatric nutrition, and renal nutrition. She is also actively involved in community nutrition initiatives and collaborates closely with companies on nutrition-focused product development. Additionally, she serves as the Vice President of the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association.
