Course Overview

In today’s data-intensive economies, vast amounts of personal data are collected, used and processed. Organisations in Singapore are required to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) when they collect, use and disclose personal data.


This course will equip participants with an overview and understanding of the key legal and regulatory requirements of the PDPA and help them support their organisation’s compliance with the PDPA.


This course is suitable for Data Protection Officers (DPOs), compliance managers, human resource, IT, admin, sales and business development executives/managers who need to be involved in data protection matters.

Entry Requirements

Participants are assumed to be able to:

 

  • Understand relevant organisational strategies, objectives, culture, policies, processes and products / services; 
  • Have information gathering skills to gather and collate necessary data; 
  • Have analytical skills to assess policies and procedures; 
  • Have business writing skills to prepare management report; 
  • Have interpersonal and communication skills to interact with relevant stakeholders; 
  • Have facilitation skills to ask the right questions to elicit necessary information; and 
  • Be aware of compliance requirements of organisation. 

Who Should Attend

Data Protection Officers, compliance managers, human resource managers, admin managers, IT, sales and other managers who are involved in data protection matters. 

What You'll Learn

The course will train participants to identify key legislative and regulatory requirements under the PDPA including the 11 key obligations under the PDPA, the provisions relating to “Do Not Call”. The role of the Data Protection Officer will also be discussed, as well as learning how to manage data breaches through a case study. 

 

The 3-day course, which has been enhanced with an expanded curriculum and more rigorous assessments, will cover the following areas:

  • Introduction to the PDPA
  • Role of DPO
  • Develop a process for dispute resolution
  • Managing data breaches
  • Data Protection and Do Not Call Provisions
  • Create an organisation’s data inventory map (DIM) and identify possible areas of non-compliance
  • Training and communications to staff for compliance to data protection provisions

 

Certification

Participants who attained at least 75% attendance and successfully completed the required assessments will be awarded a Business Management (BM) WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) “ICT-CGP-3020-1.1” from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
