Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Mr Simon Yap

Believing in the intersection between design and business, Simon has straddled both areas in his role as a designer. A specialist in interior design, retail design, digital visualization, interior branding, visual merchandising, Simon’s expertise comes from 15 years in the industry working with clients such as Deloitte (Design Thinking Pedagogy), Mc Donald’s (refurbishing and designing of stores in Singapore), Keppel Land (Tianjin, China ECO-city), Diageo (Travel and retail, Coty (Travel and in retail stores) and Proctor & Gamble (Multi brands and Pharma). Today in his role as a lecturer and manager of industry engagement in the school of design, Simon mentors young design students through live industry projects with clients such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Singapore Airlines. In doing so, he continues to find that sweet spot where design successfully transforms business strategies and brief into commercial reality.

Mr Elvis Tay

Elvis is currently the head of Beyond Design Center at School of Design in Temasek Polytechnic. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts (Multimedia Design).

Elvis joined Temasek Polytechnic in 2007. Prior to that, he has practiced in the creative industry for 9 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Service Design, User experience and Design Thinking. During his stint in the industry, he was involved in the design of prolific AXS stations, NETS kiosks and SingTel Genie retails kiosks. Elvis has also played a significant role in designing advertising campaigns for local banks.
