Course Overview

This short course will explore the benefits of composting food waste and its impact on soil health and ultimately to carbon reduction. You will learn how to transform food scraps into nutrient-rich compost through hands-on practice, as well as the science on how compost can improve soil structure, increase nutrient availability, and support beneficial soil microbes. The course will also delve into the role of microbes in the composting process and how they contribute towards healthy soil ecosystem, which would further contribute to carbon cycle by acting as a carbon sink.
