Course Overview

This is a 2-day course where participants will have an understanding of recording videos using mobile phones and editing them on video editing software.  Participants will be introduced to the ingredients of making a video, planning, scripting, filming and audio techniques as well as video editing.

 

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to apply the skills acquired to produce a 30-second video.

Business owners, Marketing personnel, Corporate Communication personnel, Educators, Trainers, Social Media influencers, personnel responsible to produce in-house videos, and anyone interested in producing videos for multimedia platforms. 

What You'll Learn

Day 1

Introduction

  • Types of video (biography, interview & testimonial, product & service promotion & instructional)
  • The 3 stages of filmmaking (Pre-production, Production, Post-production)
  • Introduction to the ingredients of making a video
  • Case studies and discussions

Pre-production (Planning and Scriptwriting)

  • Introduction to 2-column script
  • Introduction to the type of shots
  • Case study on how the script is translated to video
  • Scriptwriting Exercise

Pre-production

  • 1hr to create a 30 seconds script
  • Brief introduction to storyboard drawings (not required to do a storyboard for this course)

Production (Filming):

  • Basic camera techniques
  • Filming and interview filming demonstration
  • Shot sizes, composition, movements and its purposes
  • Introduction to recommended equipments (Tripod, Gimbal Stabiliser, microphones etc)
  • Audio techniques

 

Day 2

Recap

  • Day 1 Key points
  • Production: Filming (Application of Learning)
  • The students are divided into groups of 3 members each to film a 30 sec video.

Post-Production (Video Editing Exercise)

  • Fundamentals of editing techniques
  • Introduction to editing software
  • Basic editing techniques

Post-Production (Video Editing Exercise)

  • Introduction to music/audio in editing
  • Cutting to music/rhythm in editing
  • Basic image adjustments
  • Adding text, graphics and photographs

Post-Production (Video Editing Exercise and consultation)

  • Video editing of individual videos
  • Consultations
  • Sharing and feedback

 

 

Certification

 

Participants who meet at least 75% of the required course attendance and attempt the assessment will be awarded the Certificate of Performance.

Equipment to Bring

 

Participants are to bring the following:

 

  1. Mobile Phone with video capturing capabilities and earpiece with mic that is able to plug into the computer to listen to video sound (preferably 3.5mm audio jack)
  2. A thumb drive or external hard disk that has a minimum data storage capacity of 1 gigabyte, to download and store your video assignment

Temasek Polytechnic does not provide loan services of mobile phone, earpiece and thumb drive or external hard disk for this course. Please be sure to bring the required equipment.

 

Attending the course without the required equipment, you will be asked to withdraw from the course with NO REFUND.
