Course Overview

In this course, participants will be able to design automation solutions in the advanced automation sector with the widely adopted OMRON machine controllers. They will have first-hand experience in creating and testing automation and control solutions using the Sysmac Studio software. The scope includes PLC open library function blocks, software design and diagnostic & simulation tools available in Sysmac Studio. Deployment of Industry 4.0 communication protocols namely EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, IO Link etc. will also be demonstrated via a learning journey to the smart factory within Temasek Polytechnic Advanced Manufacturing Centre.

Entry Requirements

Participants should have relevant working experiences in manufacturing sector.

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Mr Derrick Boey Shee Mun

Mr Derrick Boey is with the Diploma in Mechatronics at Temasek Polytechnic where he conducts classes for full-time students and adult learners in industrial automation and microcontrollers. He has also curated short courses on advanced manufacturing and automation for industrial partners and has been involved in WorldSkills Mechatronics competition training.

He holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Queensland. His 19 years of work experience includes automation equipment design, product testing and new product introduction (NPI) in high-volume manufacturing environments.

Mr Lo Ray Hwee

Ray Hwee is a lecturer with the Diploma in Mechatronics at Temasek Polytechnic. His work experience includes factory automation, research and development work in programmable logic controllers, and human-machine interfaces. He holds a degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Glasgow.

Currently, he conducts classes for full-time students and adult learners in Robotics and Automation as well as short courses. He is also the coach and supports training in WorldSkills Mechatronics competition.

Mr Peng Wai Meng

Wai Meng is a senior lecturer with the Diploma in Mechatronics at Temasek Polytechnic. He has been teaching various subjects in programmable logic controllers, factory automation, and robotics. He also trains students to compete in Worldskills competitions under the Mechatronics trade. Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, he worked in global MNCs to design automated equipment and implement advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance manufacturing productivity.

Mr Jinwook Choi

Mr. Jinwook has more than 7 years of working experience in a factory automation plant as a Maintenance Engineer located in Korea.

Currently, he works as an Application Engineer in Omron Singapore, supporting advanced automation products and technical application solutions.

Mr Shi Weixiong

As a Manager (Projects) in the Diploma in Mechatronics at Temasek Polytechnic, Weixiong provides technical advice and leadership for staff and student projects in the areas of Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics technology. Weixiong has 10+ years of robot design experience in various robotics competitions, such as the Singapore Robotics Games, TechX Challenge, and the International Aerial Robotics Competition. He is the record owner of consecutive 8-year champions in the Intelligent Robot Contest of the Singapore Robotic Games (2010 to 2017). He has worked on numerous industry collaboration projects in Autonomous Intelligent Vehicle and Advanced Manufacturing technology with various companies, including SSMC, LUMILEDS, AGILENT, MEIBAN, GLOBOTIX, and ST Engineering. His five months of industrial attachment to PD Solutions have further sharpened his knowledge and skills in the areas of IIOT solution platforms, Industrial Connectivity platforms, and Augmented Reality platforms. He is one of the existing tutors of Queen Bee courses "IoT Dashboard in Practice" and "Industrial Automation in Practice".
