Course Overview

Additive Manufacturing, commonly known as 3D Printing, is the formal term defined under ASTM F2792 – 12a. Today 3D printing is becoming an important advanced manufacturing technique that complements existing fabrication processes in manufacturing. The main topics covered in this course include principles and development of Metal Additive Manufacturing, design guidelines for Additive Manufacturing (ISO/ASTM 52911-2), design of support structures, generalised process chain, process selection guidelines, pre-processing software, post processing methods and the laser-based powder bed.

Participants should have basic technical domain knowledge related background.

Lecturer/Trainer Profile

Mr Lee Khim Yong

Khim Yong is a Senior Lecturer with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC) at Temasek Polytechnic. Prior to his teaching career, he has worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd. His skills sets are in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Mechanism Design and Rapid Prototyping, which includes 3D Metal Printing. Currently, he is involved in projects related to component design optimization for additive manufacturing.

Ms Zhang Shiyun

Shiyun is a Research Engineer with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC). Prior to her career in DFAMC, she worked as a research engineer in A*STAR, specialising in electron microscopy typically in EBSD and t-EBSD for microelectronics product failure analysis. With her past experiences in electronics failure analysis, she brings with her value-added skills sets in additive manufacturing materials, typically metal alloys as well as AM processes.

Mr Chung Kwong Yuew

Kwong Yuew is a Senior Engineer with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC). He currently works on an industry project involving the 3D printing of metal implants and polymer-ceramic scaffolds for bone regeneration. He also has expertise in the research of hydrogel materials and is expanding this knowledge into the 3D printing of hydrogels for biomedical applications.

Mr Lim Yin Yen

Yin Yen is a Technical Executive with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC). He had industrial experiences in manufacturing, product failure analysis and re-engineering.

Currently, he is involved in support collaborate project with Applied Science Centre on the Infrastructural Application.

Mr. Tan Ah Sin

Ah Sin is a Senior Technical Executive with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC). Prior to his career in DFAMC, he works as a CAD CAM programmer and designer in molding industries. He also well known in additive and subtractive machining on precision engineering. Currently he is involved in projects that are related to 3D modelling design and additive manufacturing processes.

Mr Mohd. Harun Shah

Harun is a Technical Executive with Digital Fabrication and Additive Manufacturing Centre (DFAMC). He had industrial experiences in precision machining, IC and injection mouldings particularly in computer numerical control machining (CNC).

With his expertise in post processing, he is involved in machining 3D printed parts to the final critical dimension to meet industrial specification.
