Why Design Matters More Than Ever

Design is no longer confined to traditional creative fields. Today, designers play strategic roles in healthcare, finance, logistics, and public service—bringing human-centred thinking and creative problem-solving to sectors undergoing rapid change¹. In Singapore, over 60% of design professionals now work outside the design industry².

Creativity, too, is evolving. With AI and other emerging technologies, it’s no longer just about aesthetics. It’s about solving problems, thinking across systems, and adapting to change³. As a student here, you will learn to use AI as a creative tool and collaborative partner, enhancing ideas, streamlining processes, and exploring new modes of expression thoughtfully and responsibly.

A Curriculum Designed for a Changing World

Your education begins with our semester-long Design Foundation. Here, you will build essential mindsets, methods, and tools across creative disciplines. It grounds you in core skills while introducing domain-specific knowledge to help you develop both breadth and depth as you progress into your diploma specialisation.
 

As you progress, you will personalise your journey through Elective Clusters in Creative Technology, Experience & Innovation, Digital Content Creation, Brand Marketing, and Creative Ventures. These clusters align with industry trends and future-of-work needs, enabling you to explore hybrid skill sets beyond your core discipline—from designing AI-enabled experiences to driving cross-sector innovation to cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.

Industry engagement is central to your learning. You’ll work on live briefs with our industry partners and gain workplace experience through extended internships that sharpen your practice, build confidence, and prepare you to graduate with a real-world-ready portfolio.

All of this is anchored in our studio-based learning philosophy. You will learn by doing—through experimentation, critique, collaboration, and reflective practice. In our design studios, you will work closely with lecturers who guide you to think through design and design through thinking. It is this balance of rigour and play, concept and craft, that shapes graduates who are both distinctive and in demand.
